Join us at Leith Arches on Saturday 28th March for an in-depth, hands-on workshop exploring the essential technical and production elements involved in preparing for a gig.

Designed for emerging artists and industry, the session will demystify the technical side of live music while giving you practical experience with equipment and production set-ups.

This practical workshop takes you behind the scenes of a live show, with demonstrations covering instrument set-up, live sound engineering, and a soundcheck demo. You’ll learn how to put together a tech spec, understand advances, backline, and venue production requirements, and see how sound desks are used to shape the sound for a live performance.

Throughout the workshop you’ll have opportunities to ask questions, observe demonstrations up close, and connect with fellow artists and creatives developing their live performance practice.

Workshop session leaders include: Martha Barr (Indoor Foxes), Joshua Grant (Artist), Cameron Hughes (Tour / Production Manager), Fraser Fulton (Tantallon Productions) and Nora Winstanley (Freelance Sound Engineer).

Cameron is Tour, Stage and Production Manager working on events, festivals and tours across the UK and Europe. In addition to his freelance work, he sits on the board of Hidden Door festival and is a passionate advocate for accessibility and sustainability in live music.

Martha Barr
Artist, Indoor Foxes

Scottish born singer and songwriter, Indoor Foxes, brings girlieness into the Scottish-rock tradition. With her EP, 'Sadolescence' released in October 2024, she addresses feelings of girlhood in her music and lyrically navigates her experience of it. Inspired by the likes of Wolf Alice, Paramore, Phoebe Bridgers and Frightened Rabbit, she describes herself as 'Paris Hilton meets Courtney Love - a bit pretty and very very loud'.

Joshua Grant
Artist, Joshua Grant

Joshua Grant is a recording artist and applied AI specialist based in Scotland. As a musician, he has charted at number one on the Scottish charts with "Edinburgh," accumulating over 1.5 million streams and earning BBC Radio 1 airplay. As a live performer, Joshua has completed two UK tours and shared stages with some of the most exciting acts in British rock and indie, including Crawlers, Stone, and The Snuts. Alongside his performing career, Joshua holds a Masters in Applied AI and has developed expertise at the intersection of music and technology. Interning at a publisher he helped build an AI-powered music catalogue valuation platform. His academic research focused on context injection techniques in AI-generated financial reporting, with direct applications to the music rights space. Joshua brings a combination of first-hand experience as a working artist and technical fluency in the systems that underpin how music is valued, distributed, and monetised.
