Leyla Josephine

Poet

Leyla is a performance poet and theatre maker from Scotland. In 2014 she won The UK National Slam at The Royal Albert Hall, she has since then won The Commonwealth Slam, The Loud Poets Grand Slam. She was a finalist in the 2017 Roundhouse Slam and runner up for 2018 The Scottish Championships. She has been lucky enough to perform her poetry in Scotland, England, Wales, Northern Ireland, Ireland, The Czech Republic, Canada and in The US.

Her solo shows ‘Hopeless’ and ‘Daddy Drag’ have taken the UK by storm with sold out shows across the country. 'Daddy Drag' won the 2019 Autopsy Award which celebrates groundbreaking theatre being made in Scotland.

She is in an American anthology about abortion called Choice Words: Writers On Abortions alongside the likes Margaret Atwood, Audre Lorde and Gloria Steinem.

Leyla’s been featured in Huffington Post, Gutter Magazine, Upworthy, The Scotsman, The National, Buzzfeed, The Guardian and on The BBC. She has been named in The List Top 100 Artists To Watch in 2019.
